Annual Golf Outing Supports Scholarships for School Employees

On August 8, MARSP members and friends gathered in Williamston, MI, for a day of golf, camaraderie, and support for the Foundation Scholarship Fund. (Click here for a photo recap of the event!)

Net proceeds from the Foundation’s annual golf outing support professional development scholarships for current and incoming public school employees. In 2024, the Foundation awarded 11 scholarships to individuals from all corners of Michigan’s public school system, including a Payroll Specialist, Special Education Teacher, Director of District Compliance, and Behavior Interventionist.

As the Foundation approaches the 2025 scholarship application season, please share this opportunity with potential applicants and consider contributing to the Scholarship Fund. Together, we will continue enhancing careers and bringing new skills and innovation to Michigan classrooms!

MARSP Seeks Long-Term Retiree Healthcare Protections in HB 5803 and SB 911

On July 24, 2024, the Governor signed a budget that redirected $670 million from the MPSERS healthcare fund to support schools. To use the funds this fiscal year, lawmakers must amend the MPSERS Act.

MARSP advocates that any amendment to the MPSERS Act includes specific protections for MPSERS funding. We risk undermining efforts in the last decade to improve MPSERS finances without safeguards.

Your membership helps amplify our voice in Lansing during this critical time. Together, we’ll continue fighting for current and future public school retirees!

Annual Video: Member Update

MARSP Executive Director Royce Humm updates members and showcases MARSP’s recent achievements — from healthcare and pension advocacy to programs that foster member connections.

Royce also sits down with Dan Doonan, Executive Director of the National Institute of Retirement Security (NIRS), to discuss generational perceptions of issues impacting retirement income security today.
