MARSP advocates for the pension and health benefits of current and future retired school personnel. If you are or will someday enter the Michigan Public School Employees Retirement System (MPSERS), MARSP is your lobbying partner and resource on all things pension and healthcare.

Information – MARSP sends print and digital information to keep you up-to-date and help you on your retirement journey. Your membership comes with a subscription to our quarterly magazine, VANGUARD, and monthly e-newsletter, VISION. You’ll also receive special legislative email updates and exclusive member news and stories.

Advocacy – We are working daily to protect your MPSERS pension and health care benefits.

Education – Annual conferences, training workshops, webinars, and seminars to keep MARSP members informed.

Discounts – MARSP has partnered with Association Member Benefits Advisors (AMBA) to bring you “member-only” discounts on a variety of products and services. Community – We represent ALL public school retirees and ONLY public school retirees. With MARSP, you have access to a community of retired and active school staff who support each other. For nearly 70 years, MARSP has been the only organization totally dedicated to promoting and supporting the rights and needs of retired public school personnel and serving as their legislative voice. Our success is due in large part to grassroots member involvement from retirees like you.

Today, the association has 30,000 members and more than 80 chapters in Michigan, Florida, Arizona, Colorado, and Tennessee.

Membership Options

MARSP is made up of current AND future retirees, MPSERS beneficiaries, and anyone who supports the protection of Michigan public school pensions and health care benefits.

Annual membership

Eligibility: Regular membership in MARSP shall be open to (1) all retired annuitants of the Michigan Public School Employees Retirement System (MPSERS); (2) spouses of living retired annuitants, and the annuitant spouses of deceased members of that system; and (3) non-MPSERS retired annuitants who submit conclusive evidence of (a) bona fide retirement status and (b) not less than ten (10) complete years of service in Michigan tax-supported educational institutions upon payment of either the annual or life membership dues in effect at the time of application.

Cost: MARSP state dues are only $40 per year and local dues average $5 per year.  See the MARSP Local Chapter Dues Schedule for specific local chapter dues. MARSP also offers an auto-renew option for members to automatically renew dues annually with a credit card (valid email address is required for this option). 

**Special dues rates:

  • All current MARSP members age 85 or older are offered annual memberships with reduced dues.
  • Any member in good standing having attained the age of 100 shall be granted honorary membership at no cost.

Lifetime membership

Eligibility: Regular membership in MARSP shall be open to (1) all retired annuitants of the Michigan Public School Employees Retirement System (MPSERS); (2) spouses of living retired annuitants, and the annuitant spouses of deceased members of that system; and (3) non MPSERS retired annuitants who submit conclusive evidence of (a) bona fide retirement status and (b) not less than ten (10) complete years of service in Michigan tax-supported educational institutions upon payment of either the annual or life membership dues in effect at the time of application.

Cost: The MARSP State Lifetime Membership is one payment of $800.  Several local chapters also offer lifetime memberships. Please contact the chapter in your local area for more information.

Associate membership for active employees

Eligibility: Associate membership in MARSP shall be open to school employees, and other persons interested in the purposes and programs of MARSP.

Cost: MARSP state dues are only $40 per year and local dues average $5 per year. See the MARSP Local Chapter Dues Schedule for specific local chapter dues.
