Survey Results: Members Review MPSERS Vision, Hearing & Dental Coverage

As advocates for the pensions and health benefits of retired school personnel, MARSP surveyed members on specific aspects of the Michigan Public School Employees Retirement System (MPSERS) healthcare plan, including vision, hearing, and dental. To ensure maximum participation, we provided both a digital survey option and a traditional mail-in option.

We received an overwhelming response from members, with over 6,000 individuals participating and sharing their experiences. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to each and every member who took the time to participate in the survey. The results of this exercise will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of MPSERS healthcare plans for all public school retirees. Your feedback has been invaluable, and we assure you that your voices have been heard.

Through this survey, we gained new insights into the thoughts and opinions of our members. Today, we are excited to share some of the key findings from our in-depth analysis:

Vision Coverage

  • 80% of respondents were satisfied or somewhat satisfied.
  • 80% desire better frames and lens coverage.
  • 25% prefer eye exams once per year, not every two years.
  • Comments emphasized the need for yearly frame/lens replacement and exams.

Hearing Coverage

  • 38% of respondents don’t use this benefit.
  • 70% of the remaining respondents were satisfied or somewhat satisfied.
  • 47% want more device choices.
  • 46% seek an increase in provider options.

Dental Coverage

  • 80% of respondents were satisfied or somewhat satisfied.
  • 55% want a higher yearly coverage cap.
  • 51% desire increased coverage for bridges, implants, and dentures.
  • Some respondents reported issues with their preferred dentist no longer working with Delta Dental.

These are just a few of the key takeaways from the survey. Moving forward, we will continue to update you on how our survey results impact decisions made by the Office of Retirement Services (ORS) and the MPSERS Board. Stay tuned for more ways to advance MARSP’s mission to obtain the best possible benefits and support for all retired school personnel.

Once again, thank you for your active participation and commitment to our community. Your dedication strengthens our cause, and together, we can ensure a brighter and healthier future for all retirees.
