MPSERS Reform Resource Guide

CALL TO ACTION!

YOU helped stop pension reform last year. We need your voice again!

Your State Representatives and State Senators need to hear from you as soon as possible, to convey your opposition to HB 4647 & SB 401 to close out the MPSERS Hybrid and Defined Benefit system to newly hired school employees!  The State will not save money by closing the system. In fact, such a move will have a negative financial impact with increased costs to the State budget and, ultimately, the taxpaying citizens of Michigan.  The resources below will assist you in quickly and easily contacting your legislators today!

Call your legislators and the Governor!

MARSP recognizes that making a phone call to elected officials can sometimes be intimidating; however, using the sample scripts below will hopefully make the process much easier. You don’t need to be an expert on MPSERS pension reform to make the call, you just need to call to voice your opposition.  Please use the links above to find your legislators and their contact information. The Governor’s office can be reached by calling 517-335-7858.

If you are a MARSP member who no longer lives in Michigan, we encourage you to contact the legislators from the district you formerly lived in and also the Governor’s office.

Here is a sample script to use when contacting your State Representatives and State Senators:

“My name is __________ and I live in ___________.  I am calling to register my opposition to HB 4647/SB 401 to close the MPSERS Hybrid and Defined Benefit system to newly hired school employees.  The State will not save money by closing the system. In fact, such a move will have a negative financial impact with increased costs to the State budget and, ultimately, the taxpaying citizens of Michigan.”

Here is a sample script to use when contacting the Governor’s office:

“My name is __________ and I live in ___________.  I am calling to thank the Governor for his work to protect the MPSERS Hybrid and Defined Benefit system for future retirees and ask him to remain strong in his opposition to HB 4647 & SB 401, the latest attempts to close out the system.”
