MARSP welcomes new legislators at reception

Legislative Reception well attended by guests and members

As we greeted our Michigan legislators this week on a chilly and somewhat snowy early morning for our annual MARSP Legislative Reception, we were pleased with not only the great turnout by senators and representatives, but also the strong attendance by our members.  The event was hosted by our lobbying firm Karoub and Associates in their well appointed space on Allegan St. downtown and the room reverberated with camaraderie and conversation.

Some of the 29 lawmakers who came got their first introduction to MARSP, as they are newly elected and just starting their first terms in office.  Others were well acquainted with us and know that we are a non-partisan association focused strictly on public school retiree issues.  Our members were well prepared with talking points to be sure each legislator went away with an accurate understanding of our interests.  It was truly a bi-partisan event with legislators from both parties in about equal numbers.  One lawmaker commented that he had been apprehensive about attending based on experience with other education groups, but found MARSP to have a refreshingly positive, bi-partisan perspective.

Several photos of the event are below. Additional photos are available on the MARSP Facebook page.
